Trichloroethylene (TCE) is a common halogenated hydrocarbon organic solvent with the chemical formula C₂HCl₃. It is a colorless, transparent liquid with a slightly sweet odor, highly volatile, and possesses excellent degreasing properties. Trichloroethylene has strong dissolving capabilities for oils, waxes, and resins, and is non-flammable, making it widely used in industrial cleaning in the past.

Industrial-grade trichloroethylene is mainly produced through chlorination reactions and is an important solvent and intermediate in various fine chemical and organic synthesis processes. However, due to its potential risks to the environment and health, its use is now strictly regulated in many countries, and it is primarily used for controlled industrial purposes.
